Olympics

Dam- dum- da-da-dum dum dum dummmm dump bitdity dump dump bidity dump dum dum bitty dum dum dummmmmm.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Olympics. I actually remember being seven watching the 1980 Winter Olympics and seeing the Miracle on Ice. Partially because at 9 pm in January in the middle of Chicago there's not much else to be doing.

But I was swimming that summer. I spent almost 4 years every summer swimming. Getting up at 8 am going down to the neighborhood pool and training for the breast stroke and freestyle. Not coordinated enough for the butterfly... it's hard. And Backstroke I always worried about banging my head.

I remeber in 88 watching both games. I remember watching CUrling with my parents. Trying to figure out how shoving an iron down the ice while sweeping is a sport.

And then there's Gymnastis and Track and Field. I ran track in High school. 220 and the 440 which in the Olympics is the 200 and 400.

I did fairly well. I remember a doctor later in life telling me I should have been a track runner cause that's the way I'm constructed. Interesting.

At anyrate, I've been enjoying the Olympics and apprently I'm not the only one because NBC has pulled some great ratings. I was at work but got to "enjoy" the Sweden VS. Norway in Sand Volleyball. Pretty much nothing you can do hate that.

I think that 'Lympics still mean something to people. Especially people who l like competition. And although Communist people hardly exist anymore it's just as fun to meet the competition in Australia and others. My favorite being Pieter van den Hoogenbanden. Cause what a great name.

But the come from behind to win Gold that Paul Hamm pulled off tonight was amazing. I mean to go from that terrible vault and still win was amazingly amazing. 12 thousandths of a point. "Dude! Dude!" His teammates yelled.

So yay, two weeks of this... and boy do I wish I had cable to check out some of those great things NBC doesn't wish us to see but exist on MSNBC and others. Hopefully when the Winter Olympics roll around in 2006 I'll have the Cable I wish.

I had a few Olympic blog comments myself... more of a rant though. And I'm assuming you were watching womens sand volleyball? I just can't get enough. COULD there bathing suits be ANY smaller? And didn't Paul Hamm win the gold? I think he did anyways....
