National Treasure

My National Treasure would be some #%$%@ing sunshine. It's still raining. In two weeks we've had a day and a half of sunshine.

I'm dying. But still writing away.

Ryan and I went to see National Treasure... the new Bruckheimer/ Nicholas Cage movie. Always liked Nicholas Cage... even before I knew he was. But since The Rock he's been high on my list. So the matching of Bruckheimer and Cage was on my gotta see list. And... it was all right. I mean it was funny... not a lot of room for Cage to freak out like he's so good at... but it was good.

Part of problem with the film is that if you've read The Da Vinci Code you'll recognize the plot. It's as if Bruckheimer read Da Vinci Code saw that Ron Howard had already acquired the rights and set out to make his own version.
(Incdentally, Brian Grazer was going to buy TDVC for the TV show 24 but the author had his sights set on movies. Now Ron Howard is directing and Tom Hanks is starring.)

Anyway, a lot of action not enough plot. It's not really a thinker, like it could have been. Off set the action without bit of intellectual tingler and you would have had an A movie... but as it is it's a B.

I might also mention Cage's costars are awesome. The buddy named Riley. played by Justin Bartha, is a laugh riot. (I could played this part by just walking on to the set and picking up the script on Day 1. I wish I had.) But he's hilairous. And the chickie Diane Krueger who also played Helen in Troy is hot hot hot in this film. She's instantly likeable.... but that's true of most Bruckheimer women.

So see it... or wait for the DVD. Either way I'm sure you'll like it.
