CUBS WIN!!!!!

I've been avoiding this subject. I've stayed the hell away. Why? Cause I'm a Cub Fan. And I KNOW the disappoint. I KNOW about the hurt. I was AT the game when the Cubs lost the tie breaking game for the wild card slot back in the last century. Here's the pic:

8x10.jpg

I haven't mentioned it because .... I didn't wanna jinx it. Why? I'm A CUB FAN.

We won a World Series back i n '08. THAT's 1908. 95 years ago. The last time we won the NL Central was 1989.

WE WON!!!!!

All right now that that's over let me move on to to predict the next series against the Braves. We're losing. It's all right. We'll win 2 but most likely lose 3. It's all right.

BUT NEXT YEAR... when we have a much healthier staff, the return of Corey Patterson, a healthier bull pen. Some time under the belt in the post season. Next year we will the NL. I've put my money on it. We'll make the series.

You can point out this blog. Laugh in my face but I'm excited about it.

My next trip to Vegas I'm making the bet.

All right I'm done.

Cubs Win.

The Simpsons

On a totoally dumb and wierd topic. I was trying to think how many times in my life I've heard the Simpsons theme song. It's unimaginable.

The Simpsons are there 14th season. I probably picked it up about season 2. That was 1991. Imagine 26 episodes a year (not that I watched them all but probably close. Not to mention how many times I've them in re-runs since then. Not to mention I have the first three seasons on DVD. 26 eps plus commentary so 52 eps.

And I had the CD "the Music of Danny Elfman" who did Batman music and Pee-wee music and the Simspsons theme song. I think the summer of 92 I listened to that cd a hundred times.

The number of times 've heard that theme song is pretty incalcuable but based on rough estimates (50 eps a year some years more than others plus the hundred times that summer) Probably somewhere near a thousand times.

Wow.

That was just silly, I know... but that's what I was thinking about.

Being 30, Day 1

Yeah feels like I did yesterday.

How did I spend my day?

Well, firstly, I would like to thank all the Cardinals fans who prayed that the Cardinals would come through and take the series. Cubs are only a half game down playing Cincinatti. How lucky Houston will be playing San Fran.

Secondly, geez are those Chiefs crazy or what. I got to see that game cause, you know, I'm in Texas.

About 2, I watched, aptly, Logan's Run. For those of you who don't know it's about a future soceity where everyone who turns 30 is sent in to carousel in hopes of being renewed. But what no one knows is that no one is EVER renewed. I watched that at my friend Jeff's house.

At 5 I played some ps2. James Bond Nightfire. It's pretty awesome.

At 7 we went to Sullivans off sixth street, great steaks. Yummy.

At 10 I watched Free Enterprise. A great parody of William Shatner starring well, William Shatner.

All the while drinking some fine beer, some smuggled out of Missouri, Boulevard Beer. MMMMMMM.

Oh and the Critic is hilarious. Catch the reruns on Comedy Central.

Happy Birthday to Me

It's my birthday.

I'm 30. I'm all cool with that. I've felt 30 for about a year now. There's really no difference. Except it's a 3 not a 2. I remember feeling melancholy about going from one digit to two knowing I'd probably only be two digits forever.

Birthdays are what you make of them. I'm just happy I've started a new life, trying something new and making a go of something other than cookling at the 'Bee's. Instead I'm serving at the 'Bee's. But it's a new place with new goals. The movie industry is pretty prevalent here. At the bank I went to, the girl who hooked up my checking account gave me the addresses to look up on the net to find auditions. Do 2 or three of these, she said and you have access to everyone. "Well, not everyone, but people who know people." Hmmmmm.
She also gave me a camping chair with a cooler in it she thought was "pretty neat."

Anyway, cheers. It's my birthday and I'm 35 pages into the rewrite. It's only now I start questioning myself. My new goal, write through it. Questioning only slows you down.

La' chiam.

Matt

While searching for the perfect birthday moment of Zen I ran across a few other people turning 30 and their views on the past. Their lives.

People have chided me a bit for being long winded in the first place. Why not be when you have something worth reading about. Turning 30.

Part of passe'-ness about this whole thing is that everyone over 30 has done it. DO you know how many people in the world have turned 30 before? Just as an example did you know the amount of people on social security is higher than it ever has been. The Baby boomers turned thirty a long time ago. And they made it. Life went on. It always does. It's a nice constant... live goes on. You will get over and persevere.

But what do people want to hear form you? Where did I think I'd be at this point? It sort of depends on when you asked me? When I was 10? I'd have been married at 25 just having our first kid. Why? Cause you need to spend time with a person before you have a kid to know if they are the one.

At 20? I'd have said at 30 I'll be broke somewhere pursuing my acting career. Well I guess I was right. Would I have a steady girl? Hell yeah, look at me.

At 25. I grew up. I think I said at 30... God only knows.

I think at some point around 25 or 26 you just realize your not going to have all the answers. When you're 18 you do. You think you got it all figured out. And at 21 you think, geez when I was 18 I didn't know shit about shit, but now *snap* it's all cool. And about 24 you look back and you think "Man, when I was 18 and 21, I had NO idea what was going on, I didn't know shit about shit, no matter what I thought, but, now, *snap* it's cool." And finally around 26 it just hits you. You don't know shit about shit. And you may never. But THAT *snap* is cool.

So pursue your dreams. Do it when your ready. Make the bold moves. Age is meaningless. Your only as old as you feel and if you've been making out with 20 years old like I have, well shame on you, but damn it you don't feel old.

You might think this is my mid life crises. Sadly it's what I should have known at a long time ago. I'm a late bloomer but that's another blog for another time.

And now, your moment of ZEN.

September 19, 2003

So I had a dream last night and it can't possibly mean anything cause it's just so whacky. Other than perhaps I'm whacky.

I was i n Vegas, with Aj and my sister. First thing we do is sleep. Which hsould be the first thing you do when you arrive in Vegas. I awake and agree to my sis at the casino across the street which in my head is like the K-Mart Casino.

So I get there and we start drinking. I then spend 20 minutes in a car trying to call AJ not getting the numbers right.

Flash ahead I'm onstage with Madonna and, I think, the Spice Girls, and I'm the sexy male guy they're all dancing with. (Must have been a song about the Average guy.) Anyway, so the show goes great and after words the Spice GIrls ignore me and they're being all haughty about it. So Madonna pretends that we've known each other for years and I make a joke saying that I was the hot blonde guy in Madonna's "Express Yourself" video. She enjoys that.

So now I'm hanging with Madonna in the casino and we're enjoying a few drinks and some of Springfield buddies show up so Madonna really starts playing it up. The guys are impressed even if they don't believe it.

Frank Sinatra shows up to show us some of "his" Vegas. And calls Madonna, Maddy. Like anyone else in the world would be able to get away with that. And he says things like "Maddy, you're gonna kill that kid later."

So Frank hands out a couple of bills to everyone and Frank and I play some craps and I win the first two rolls. Frank's happy. "I like this kid he's lucky." So Frank gets each a bottle of some good scotch. "Whatever you don't finsh I will for you."

SO I see Madonna getting ready to go. "Ahh, don't go." I say. "Darling, I'm a mother I gotta go." SO I walk her out. "Do I get to see you again.?" I ask. She winks. And her limo drives off.

The I woke up.

Wierd eh?

And now your moment of Zen.
