Catching Up

Mostly, on sleep.

I'm working on a new script as well. Fixing the outline so I can start Draft one. It's an interesting Idea that I can't wait to have fun with. And by fun I mean lying on the floor going "where is this going? what am I trying to say?"

Luckily I don't have that problem with my blog. I just write. That's why sometimes I talk around the point or things are misellped. I try not to think too much about it and just blurt.

I was catching up on my brother's blog... I know it can be ponderous... I just take it in junks... look at our writing styles and you'll see the difference between us...

The Beltran trade that Houston made was probably the one thing that team needed. Which is bad for both us Cubs fans and you wacky Cards fans. Beltran is considered the best CF in the game not to mention probably ranks about 3rd overall. In the last 3 games against the Cubs he's hit 3 HRs one of which won the game on Wednesday. The man's amazing to watch. And this helps the Astros immensly. Already with Biggio and Berkman (despite his recent slump) that offensive line-up is quite good. Look for another three team race heading into September.

I'm this close to finshing my vacation update which will hopefully be worth the wait.

Going to see Spidey 2 tomorrow night so expect a terrific glowing review of that. From what I've already heard I'm getting chills. This is from the guys at the Digital Bits.

It's a great ride. As critics have been saying, it IS even better than the first film. I would say it's a fuller and richer film emotionally. The action is great, the effects are great, but it's the characters that shine through here without a single weak link.

Well if that doesn't excite you.

And I invite you, again, to check out this bizarro site. I know it's the same but it's just so odd.

Home

Sorry been away.

Then, in 6 shifts I worked 32 hours.

I've been busy.

And today, proving how much older I'm getting my back is on fire. I got some kitchen shifts over the weekend and did a lot of bending over. And it killed my back. I'm in pain.

PAIN!!!!

At anyrate I had a great trip home. But I'm in too much pain to tell you about it.

I promise to get an update and some cool stuff this week. Some pics and audio.

But, today, I'm going to lay on my bad back. And I really want to clean my apartment.

:(

Now.... a moment of ZEN.

Golf Tan

I have officially decided that the term farmer's tan is longer current.

Instead we shall use the term golf tan. As in the type of tan a golfer often gets from too much time playing. Golf tan may or may not include a non-tan hand in which the average golfer wears a glove.

This said I have a great golf tan going on this weekend. Played two days in a row. So much golf, in fact, my abs and obliques are killingme sore. Killing me.

The trip up was great, a lot less boring than I thought it would be but I have a feeling the ride home will be much worse.

That's all for today.

I'm sure I'll have stories galore. But till then pray (or do what ever it is you do) that my car and I make there and back. Thanks.

Till next Thursday,

Visceral

Relating to, situated in, or affecting the viscera.
Perceived in or as if in the viscera; profound: “The scientific approach to life is not really appropriate to states of visceral anguish” (Anthony Burgess).
Instinctive: visceral needs.

viscera
The soft internal organs of the body, especially those contained within the abdominal and thoracic cavities.

Interesting. Especially considering how people use this word now. Like a visceral reaction. Well that's what I like.

I love roller coasters. I like speed and losing my stomach on the giant drop. This is probably why I'm going to be foolish enough to jump out of a plane for my 31st birthday. My friend, Cecil, was in the military he has 46 jumps under his belt. I have 4 other members of the Austin chapter of T.U.F.F. who want to go with... so we are.

At anyrate I was thinking of this today as I was listening to Jim Rome on the way back from work. He was talking about de le Hoya moving from a lightweight to a middle weight so that he can earn a whole other title. And this got me thinking about boxin and how I really can't stand to watch boxing. Two guys beating the living crap out of each other.

It's like watching hockey on TV. Skating for hours around a rink slapping a urinal cake around. Then I got tickets to a game. 4th row behind the glass. It was a whole new game watching people slam into the glass and the puck flying a crazy speeds around the ice. It was undescribable. It was exciting. It was well... visceral.

So I can imagine boxing being the same thing. So in three years when I'm rich, maybe I'll take in a match at the MGM and watch two guys pound the crap out of each other live and really see what I've been missing.

More on this next week.

But now a moment of zen. I need more cowbell!

Baz-ball

There's an old Abbot and Costello sketch where they walk into a sporting goods store. They meet an Asian woman they know who calls it Baz-ball. But what's funnier is what occurs after. They meet the store Clerk.

"I'm looking for a bat" says Costello.

"Well, here's a fine one" shows the clerk. "This bat was made for Slaughter."

"Haven't you got one that was made for baseball?"

"Slaughter is the man's last name."

"What's his first name?"

"Enos"

"Well there's a clever guy.... He knows his first name."

"Everybody knows Slaughter. Enos Slaughter?"

"Well, maybe he knows Slaughter but I don't know him."

"How bout this glove? This glove was made for Fella of the Cleveland Indians."

"There are 9 guys on the Indians team which fella are you talking about?"

Ah, Abbot and Costello. He played for the Cardinals incidentally.

And speaking of the Cardinals they trounced, SEVERELY, the Cubs today. 12-4. SAUCE you just keep it shut.

At anyrate, Cubs need a break. Just little time to mend some injuires. My only hope is that come Post All-Star break the Cubs will all be healthy having had their little rest and kick everyone's fatigued ass.

Here's a pic of Enos.

Hopefully I'll have all sorts of dumb stuff to tell you about.

Hoping to see Troy tonight.... so expect a review.

Big Movie WEEKEND!

TDAT.jpg

As it was Memorial Day weekend, you like me were probably thinking... which movie should I attend?

I decided it had to be The Day After Tomorrow. Why?

Well, firstly, when deciding Saturday Night I liked being able to say "I'm seeing the Day after Tomorrow the day after tomorrow."

Secondly, cause it's the movie everyone thought would be the big summer movie. Course, we were wrong it's going to be Shrek 2.

But mostly, I went for mindless popcorn fun. Pretty much what I was expecting was a movie with amazing visual effects and very little plot. And, that's pretty much what I got. No plot and effects that blow you away. Stunning.

My only real problem with the movie besides lack of a real plot was how American-centric it was. No Vancover getting vanquished by volumes of snow. No pics of Parliment paralyzed by pounds of permafrost. Not even any representations of Russia ruined by weather. All New York and Cali... even Chicago didn't get a nod and it's got the tallest building in the US.

(And sorry about the alliterations I got carried away.)

But, oddly enough, guess what was kind of pinging in the back of my head. 9/11.

Because when my sister called and woke me up to tell me craziness was occurring I turned on the Tv I thought I was watching Independence Day.

Same writers/ directors as TDAT. So then it was life imitating art. These amazing structures we though would be there forever gone. And now it's a movie where every structure we've come to rely on is blown away or frozen over. I wonder who else was in the audience with a slight uncomfortable twinge in the back of their head going... should I being enjoying this spectacle?

In the end the answer is yes. Everyone who is born starts by knocking things over and applauding it. Disaster and choas is something everyone enjoys. It's why you can't look away at an accident.

But even simpler than that is... it's a release. It isn't real. And the ability to seperate real life and fiction is what seperates us from the apes and the whales and the bananas.

Go see it. Don't look for story just look for earth taking itself back and teaching man a lesson.

Even if the movie does beat that message like a dead horse.
