just Back

I'm back from San Fran.

I'm a jet setter now.

Honestly, so much happened at Aj's Wedding... I'm still processing it all.

But I promise in two days I'll have an update ... and by the end of the week I'll even have pictures and *crosses fingers* video.

Till then I'm very tired.

And I'm moving.

Song a spinning

From RENT:

(After ANGEL'S funeral)

Mark:

How did I get here?
How the Hell pan left: Close on the steeple of the church.
How did we get here?
How the hell?
Christmas Eve last year.
How could a night so frozen be so scalding hot.
How could a morning this mild be so raw.

Why are entire years streen on the cutting room floor of memories
When Single Frames from one magic night forever flicker in close-up
on the 3-D IMAX of my mind.

That's poetic.

That's pathetic.

Why did Mimi knock on Rogers door?
And Collins choose that phone booth
Next to where Angel set up his drums.
Why did Marueen's Equiptement breakdown
Why am I the witness?
And when I capture it on film.
Will it mean that it's the end and I'm Alone?

Olympics

Dam- dum- da-da-dum dum dum dummmm dump bitdity dump dump bidity dump dum dum bitty dum dum dummmmmm.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Olympics. I actually remember being seven watching the 1980 Winter Olympics and seeing the Miracle on Ice. Partially because at 9 pm in January in the middle of Chicago there's not much else to be doing.

But I was swimming that summer. I spent almost 4 years every summer swimming. Getting up at 8 am going down to the neighborhood pool and training for the breast stroke and freestyle. Not coordinated enough for the butterfly... it's hard. And Backstroke I always worried about banging my head.

I remeber in 88 watching both games. I remember watching CUrling with my parents. Trying to figure out how shoving an iron down the ice while sweeping is a sport.

And then there's Gymnastis and Track and Field. I ran track in High school. 220 and the 440 which in the Olympics is the 200 and 400.

I did fairly well. I remember a doctor later in life telling me I should have been a track runner cause that's the way I'm constructed. Interesting.

At anyrate, I've been enjoying the Olympics and apprently I'm not the only one because NBC has pulled some great ratings. I was at work but got to "enjoy" the Sweden VS. Norway in Sand Volleyball. Pretty much nothing you can do hate that.

I think that 'Lympics still mean something to people. Especially people who l like competition. And although Communist people hardly exist anymore it's just as fun to meet the competition in Australia and others. My favorite being Pieter van den Hoogenbanden. Cause what a great name.

But the come from behind to win Gold that Paul Hamm pulled off tonight was amazing. I mean to go from that terrible vault and still win was amazingly amazing. 12 thousandths of a point. "Dude! Dude!" His teammates yelled.

So yay, two weeks of this... and boy do I wish I had cable to check out some of those great things NBC doesn't wish us to see but exist on MSNBC and others. Hopefully when the Winter Olympics roll around in 2006 I'll have the Cable I wish.

Super-DUPER MAN

Go here.

It's a link to a previous blog I wrote about not only Supergirl but also how they F*CKED up the original Superman movies.

I'll wait, patiently for you return but let's not take all day.

Now we all know how the Salkinds screwed the pooch making Superman. And they've been trying to correct the error for over ten years now. Tim Burton, Nicholas Cage, names a MANY thrown into the mix trying to make this film... and if you do a search and try read some of the scripts... well... they mostly suck. Bad.

But what's this... an actual glimmer of hope in the Superman realm. Bryan Singer, who directed both the X-Men movies has signed on to do the Next Superman movie. And even more Fantastical? The producer with Singer on X-men was Lauren Shuler Donner. Starting to see it aren't you. Ms. Donner is married to none other than DA DA DUMMMMM Richard Donner who so fantistically directed 1 and most of 2.

As if all this is good enough.... rumors are circulating that they are auditioning people with pages from the original 1976 script!

Hooray! Maybe we can finally have a Superman to be proud of again.

And, rumors have it, they're looking at Tom Welling from the Smallville series. He has in the past said he would rather keep doing Smallvile but Tom now that the DOnner's are behind it. GO GO GO. You'll never forgive yourself if you don't.

And now a Super moment of ZEN. "It's too late Luthor, it's too late."

SLC PUNK

"I hated her ideas because they were critical of me."

It's a good film. Although I'm not punk nor do I like a good fight. Though I have been to Salt Lake City, I'm not mormon. But I think what this film is really about is growing up. And more importantly becoming the person you will be as opposed to the person you are. That what you htik you will be at 15 is nothing compared to what you'll be by 23.

We all grow up thinking we're going to be one for the rest of our lives and at some point something makes you do a 180.

Like Jeff, he was going to take over the world via computers. Now he's found himself to be a manager at Dell. Hardly a place to hack the world from. Not that he hates his life mind you it's just not what he expected.

You just find yourself stuck in a rut and realize if you're ever going to grow it's time to move on.

Anyway, SLC PUNK stars Matthew Lillard who I've never totally enjoyed (though his impression of Shaggy is spot on down to the walk, despite how bad the rest of the movie is.) He's a punk circa 1985 growing up Salt Lake City (SLC) who comes to realize that anarchy is not the way of the world. And no matter how much he fights it he realizes that rebellion is just a phase and you never here anything about 40 year old punks.

The performances are great. Cinematography is great but sometimes in their desire to be arty the film seems a little cliche'd in it's visuals. But as the film is 5 years old I probably shouldn't bitch about that too much.

It's a good film. SOmethin that seems almost personal to the filmmakers and I like it. And by recommending this film... it's hardly a risk... anyone can get into and it doesn't feel wierd like so many indy films can. But only mainstream people care about such things. Not cool people like you.

Fun Stuff

Well I've been lacking in posts but it's Summer in Texas and you know what that means... 105 degress, 120 in your car, and you car doesn't like air conditioner.

I come from work tired and sweaty only partially because of work... but also because of the car ride home. If I cruise Highway my car is fine but it's sitting in traffic at 5 PM (which in Texas is the hottest point of the day) that's when all hell breaks loose. It's the sensor on my car which is about 80 dollars to replace by a mechanic. I could try to rip it out myself... but... it would require draining all the cooolant out of my system. And that's a big mess I don't know what to do with.

So I figure a few more weeks and I'm golden.

In other news, for those who don't yet know, my friend Ryan is moving down here September 3. For his birthday, his awesome sister Angie is flying him down here to get a look at the place so he'll be arriving 8:10 pm on Thursday Night. That's cool. Got some fun things planned. Including seeing the new Alien Vs. Predator on Friday which WILL be cool.

He's been sober over a year now and that's the coolest thing ever.

More this week, I promise... probably about the DMV as I must go there this week. In Texas heat. Blech.

Your moment of Zenniness. I've seen this before and in better quality but well, you get the gist.

Bye Bye Busch

Well it looks like The Cardinals are finally getting the New Stadium they've been wanting... and here's what the new one looks like.

http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stl/ballpark/new_ballpark.jsp

It's actually a cool little interface to play with... You can click on a section and see what your view will look like. That's a pretty cool little deal.

From the site:

Second, when Clark Street is "rebuilt" through the site after Busch Stadium comes down, fans and motorists traveling along Clark Street will be able to enjoy unobstructed views into the ballpark, including the playing field itself! These views will strengthen and extend the connection between the New Ballpark and the emerging urban neighborhood on the north side of Clark Street called Ballpark Village. Perhaps the best outfield views of all will be from the balconies and rooftops of the new buildings in the Ballpark Village.

Sounds like someone's taking a page out of the Wrigley book.

Well Busch Stadium, was a football stadium, anyway, and this new one sure looks, at least interesting. So, farewell to history, hello, fancy schmancy.

Eric Bana?

Really?

For those of you who have NO idea what I'm talking about... Pierce Brosnan has hung up his liscense to kill. This saddens me. Cause besides Sean Connery Pierce has has been an outstanding Bond. His films, especially Die Another Day, have been some of the most engagin in the series. Brosnan brought something to Bond that was great. And yeah, I don't want Pierce doing Bond into his 60's like Moore in View to A Kill, but one last hurrah would've been great.

Brosnan felt he owed something to Bond. What he really wanted to do was a smaller Bond film that wasn't about world domination. He wanted to do Casino Royale and Quentin Tarentino was ready to write it. And EON, in all their infinite wisdom passed. Why? Beause instead of believing Brosnan and thinking there is no way to top Die Another Day... are trying to. So Brosnan hung it up and now, Eon is in talks with Eric Bana.

Eric Bana of Hulk and Troy fame.

Are you kidding me? Although the last time an Aussie took over Bond it was Geroge Lazenby and that film was great. However, it was one film. Lazenby just didn't strike the cord of Connery and so they brought back Sean to do Diamonds are forever and then peopl bitched he was overweight and old to be playing Bond.

I just hope they don't bring Pierce back for one more film when he's damn near 60 and looking like Moore in AVTAK.

At anyrate I would enjoy the much rumoured Clive Owen from King Arthur. Someone anyone barely knows. I mean, Pierce was the one I had been waiting for since the Remington Steele debacle. NBC wouldn't let him out of his contract. We might not have had a 60 year old Moore because of it.

I'm just not buying Eric Bana. So there.

Matt

PS Hurray the Garciaparra move to the Cubs.
